Afropop sensation Olakira returns with ‘Ileke’ and ‘Kisses’

Renowned afropop artist Olakira is making a triumphant return to the music scene. The Nigerian star singer, songwriter, and producer has announced a double single release titled ‘Ileke’ and ‘Kisses’ as a precursor to his highly anticipated debut album, slated for release this October.

After going viral once again and amassing over five million global streams with ‘Polongo’ last summer, Olakira took a short break to work on his debut album. In response to fans eagerly awaiting new music, he’s set to re-emerge this summer, and he’s also preparing for a mini African and European tour with confirmed stops in Ethiopia, Senegal, Kenya, and the Netherlands.

‘Ileke’ and ‘Kisses’ are produced respectively by Simba Tagz, known for his work with Burna Boy and Mr Eazi, and Olakira himself. ‘Ileke’ is a cheerful track blending Afrobeats and Amapiano styles, with Olakira expressing his emotions for his leading lady in English and Yoruba.

Meanwhile, ‘Kisses’ highlights Olakira’s versatility as he showcases touching melodies. Both songs are set to appeal to fans with their enticing pop elements, catchy songwriting, and distinctive Afrobeats influences.

Complementing the release of ‘Ileke’ is an exquisite music video directed by award-winning filmmaker Clarence Peters, who has worked with top artists like Wizkid, Fireboy DML, and Tiwa Savage. The video beautifully portrays the allure of African women, culture, and fashion.

Olakira gained global recognition in 2020 with his hit ‘In My Maserati’. With two acclaimed EPs, countless hit singles, and over half a billion streams, he’s one of Nigeria’s most exciting recent musicians. After learning several instruments as a teenager, he landed a record deal with U&I Music and has been creating his own music since.

In 2021, Olakira received a ‘Rookie of the Year’ nomination at The Headies, Nigeria’s equivalent to the Grammy Awards. He was also nominated for ‘Artist of the Year’ and ‘Producer of the Year’ at the All Africa Music Awards. His breakout track ‘In My Maserati’ resulted in a partnership with the luxury car brand Maserati, making Olakira the only African artist to enter such a partnership.

Now, Olakira is set to reclaim the limelight with the release of ‘Ileke’ and ‘Kisses’, which serve as an exciting preview of his forthcoming album. Watch the video for ‘Ileke’ below.
