Ampage: Still Rocking After 40 Years on the Sunset Strip

Ampage music

When it comes to the world of rock ‘n’ roll, Ampage stands as an enduring testament to the power of music. Founded on the iconic Sunset Strip in L.A. during the ’80s hair metal and glam rock era, they’ve survived and thrived for a remarkable four decades, and they’re not showing any signs of slowing down.

Evolution in the Spotlight

In a world where rock legends can disappear as quickly as they rise, Ampage has been an unyielding blaze of glory. The band has seen its fair share of changes in band personnel, something that can either make or break a group. However, Ampage has remained resilient and dedicated throughout, delivering high-quality, dynamic rock performances on stage and in the studio. This unwavering commitment is mirrored in their seven albums and nine films, capturing the hearts of fans around the world.

Legendary Collaborations in the Studio

Throughout their illustrious career, Ampage has collaborated with some of the industry’s top music producers. Their impressive list includes talents like Hendrix drummer Mitch Mitchell on the “Champagne and Caviar” album in 1987 and Krokus drummer Jeff Klaven, alongside “Heart and Ozzie” producer Duane Baron, for the “Iron Horse” album in 1997. Duane Baron and Ampage’s singer, Mark Mason, continued to produce their albums in the 2000s, with the guidance of executive producer Cameron Cutler, president of Higher Source Records.

Lineup Changes: A Rock ‘n’ Roll Riddle & A Guest List of Legends

Over the years, Ampage has experienced changes in its lineup, something that often signals the end for other bands. For instance, when Billy Vaughn left the band after recording the bass tracks for the “Champagne and Caviar” album in 1987, Mark Mason took over the bass while continuing as the lead singer. In 2013, the lead guitarist Mark Pearce replaced Mark Englert, marking a pivotal moment in the band’s history.

Ampage’s lineup changes over the years have been a source of delight for fans. “Future Days Gone By,” a powerful compilation CD, features some incredible guest appearances. Yes, we’re talking about Gary Busey, the highly acclaimed actor known for his role in “The Buddy Holly Story.” Busey made a cameo appearance in the preacher’s monologue at the beginning of the CD’s song “D Day.” He’s not the only star to grace Ampage’s records; legendary performers like Rick Allen of Def Leppard, Michael Monarch of Steppenwolf, Earl Slick of Bowie and John Lennon, and John Easedale of Dramarama have all contributed their talent to Ampage’s incredible sound over the years.

Honoring a Lost Legend

Ampage experienced a significant loss in 2016 when co-founding member and longtime drummer Michael Kroeger passed away from leukemia. Michael had just finished his drum and backing vocal tracks for the album “Bridge Of Souls” before his diagnosis. Ampage dedicated that album to his memory.

Staying True to Rock ‘n’ Roll Roots

In 2020, Ampage embarked on a new adventure, capturing their incredible journey in a compelling documentary titled “Falling Higher.” This film takes an inside look into the band’s life on the Sunset Strip, where they navigated controversies and celebrated triumphs. Ampage didn’t let the worldwide pandemic slow them down, hitting the studio to write and record a brand-new album titled “Season In Hell,” which was released in 2022.

Fast forward to 2021, and Ampage wasn’t ready to hang up their rock ‘n’ roll boots. In 2023, their journey from the Sunset Strip to today was immortalized in the major motion picture “Falling Higher: The Story of Ampage,” a documentary film now available on VOD and DVD. Shortly afterward, Ampage, in collaboration with Forcefield Studios, released the soundtrack album, featuring over 25 songs from the film.

With their four-decade journey from the Sunset Strip to the world stage, Ampage with its current lineup including Mark Mason, Mark Pearce, Bill Stokem, and Jason Fish, is a testament to the enduring power of rock ‘n’ roll. With new music on the horizon, a documentary set to captivate audiences, and a shot at the NewRockStars Unsigned Triple Crown Tour, Ampage are still the reigning kings of glam rock on the Strip. So, get ready for another dose of Ampage’s electrifying rock ‘n’ roll – the party is far from over!
