Friday, is it? New music, you’re wanting?
Well, we’ve got it for you. Five Fresh Tracks to soundtrack your weekend.
Featuring tracks from Free Nationals, Rachel Chinouriri, Octavian, The Goods, and NAAZ, this is one playlist you won’t want to turn off.
Free Nationals – ‘Time’
Perhaps best known as Anderson Paak’s band, LA-based group Free Nationals are now making a name for themselves with the release of their hotly-anticipated second single, ‘Time’. Taken from their forthcoming self-titled album, the track features Kali Uchis as well as a posthumous verse from Mac Miller.
‘Time’ narrates the tumultuous nature of romantic relationships, with instrumentals reminiscent of classic funk and R&B infused with waves of acid jazz.
Rachel Chinouriri – ‘Mama’s Boy’ EP
London native and rising singer-songwriter Rachel Chinouriri has introduced her debut EP Mama’s Boy just in time for summer. Previously released singles ‘Riptide’, ‘Adrenaline’ and ‘Mama’s Boy’ all feature, with new track ‘Good Enough’ rounding off this four-track collection.
Chinouriri’s debut EP is a delightful 13 minutes of pop, soul and jazz, blended with evocative songwriting to create pure musical perfection.
Octavian – ‘Feel it (feat. Theophilus London)’
London rapper and producer Octavian, in collaboration with Theophilus London, presents ‘Feel It’ – the lead single from the artist’s latest project. Endorphins is a 12-track mixtape featuring contributions from artists from across the globe including Skepta, Jessie Ware, A$AP Ferg and more.
Endorphins marks Octavian’s first project since 2018’s critically acclaimed SPACEMAN.
The Goods – ‘Let’s Roll’
With summer just around the corner, now is the time to start looking for music to reflect the good vibes so intrinsically associated with everyone’s favourite time of year. Enter Australian trio, The Goods. Their infectious blend of funk, pop and soul are skillfully combined and make for excellent listening.
“‘Let’s Roll’ is an invitation to follow intuition. If mood is a choice and happiness is a state of mind, then why not choose it?” the band explained.
Well said, fellas.
NAAZ – ‘Taped’
21-year old singer-songwriter NAAZ has unveiled new single ‘Taped’ – a personal and exploratory look at the feelings of oppression that come with being misunderstood – set over a catchy, pop-synth beat.
On the significance of the track title and song itself, the Holland-based singer explained: “Once I turned 18, I had to start socializing again as I was putting out music. I felt like my mind, ears & mouth were TAPED shut for years, and therefore I became an extremely open person – just to make up for all the years before where I mistreated myself with my mindset. I realized my way of thinking was not too realistic, not everyone will leave me when I cry – because everybody cries. I hope this song inspires you to be open and dare to scream out your feelings. Seriously, it will change everything. Allow yourself to be inspired by the struggle. Don’t let yourself be TAPED.”
