“I’m sorry your hero was a bad man”: Rose McGowan addresses Michael Jackson fans

Actress Rose McGowan has come out in support of alleged victims who have made sexual abuse claims against Michael Jackson, ahead of a new documentary which will explore the allegations.

Voicing her belief in the alleged victims who came forward to speak in HBO’s Leaving Neverland documentary, McGowan explained in a recent interview with Nihal Arthanayake on 5 Live Headliners: “Why would anyone want to come out and expose themselves to so much hate if they weren’t trying to regain some control in their own life. Control that had been robbed and stolen.”

McGowan, who has made herself a prominent voice in the #MeToo movement, went on to address fans of the late musician: “I’m sorry your hero was a bad man.

“It doesn’t mean that you can’t listen to and enjoy his music. You just have to understand that people are complex and this person had a particular complexity that hurt a lot of others.”

Leaving Neverland will air in the UK tonight and tomorrow, and addresses allegations made by two men who claim that they were sexually abused by children by the late singer.

Civil suits were brought against Jackson’s estate by both men following his death.

However, in 2017 a judge ruled that Jackson’s estate could no longer be held liable for the singer’s behaviour, and both cases were thrown out.

The Jackson estate has denied the allegations continuously.
