2016 hasn’t exactly been the best year for American singer-songwriter Kehlani, but she’s ending it on a high with the release of infectious pop ballad ‘Advice’. Taken from her upcoming debut album ‘SweetSexySavage’, which is set to drop 27 January, ‘Advice’ is bursting with raw emotion and explores themes of love, making a clear cut reference to her past relationship.
The single was debuted on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show on the morning of 1 December and Kehlani took the opportunity to explain the message behind the track. “I was just out of a really bad relationship with someone who I really thought was going to be, like, the one person for me and ended up showing me so many times that they weren’t,” she explained, “I realised there’s a bunch of girls who are going through the same thing and they needed to hear from somebody.”
The healing anthem shows Kehlani pouring her heart out in homage to her rough year. Her soothing vocals layered over an addictive beat have seen excitement for the album release sky-rocketing. If ‘Advice’ is anything to go by, ‘SweetSexySavage’ is going to be a chart topper.
