Man who legally changed his name to ‘Michael Jackson’ sets up crowdfund to revert it after Leaving Neverland

A factory worker and Michael Jackson fan who legally changed his name to pay tribute to the late singer is crowdfunding to legally change his name back

John Lomas from Malvern, Worcestershire changed his name to ‘John Michael Jackson’, but is now seeking to revert his deed poll after viewing the recent controversial documentary, Leaving Neverland.

The programme, which aired in the UK earlier this month, shines a light on allegations of sexual abuse against the late pop star made by two men, Wade Robson and James Safechuck.

Up until his death in 2009, Jackson denied any wrongdoing.

To help cover the costs of the legal name change, Lomas has created a GoFundMe appeal.

Speaking to the Mercury press, 38-year-old Lomas said: “During my childhood I had various obsessions and special interests growing up and one of those has been Michael Jackson,.

“A few years ago I went to LA and soon after that I changed my name to Michael Jackson legally.

“I have supported him blindly for years and but it has come to a point with everything recently that I’ve thought, ‘no more’. There is too much doubt and I’m now left with this name that I need to get rid of.

“I just want to put this behind me, I can’t have this name hanging above me anymore, I just want a fresh start,” Lomas said, noting that the name change has affected his ability to get employment in the care profession.
