Chicago’s RETROSPECT returns in preparation for their upcoming The Breakout II with “Heard Em Say” featuring Daryn Alexis, The pair have been quietly working on the follow up to 2013’s The Breakout Part I and emerge from a brief hibernation with a talented visual rendering. The pair of Quotes and Def Poet impressed their hometown with their initial release and seem well-poised here to continue that trend on the follow-up that finds them once again using the visual side of things to the decided advantage.

About RETROSPECT is a two man collective consisting of artists, Quotes and Def Poet. Unlike many representing the Juggernaut that Chi City has become (no pun intended), the tandem is a group that hails from the north side of Chicago.   RETROSPECT has performed at various venues in the windy city, at numerous college campuses and at events such as South By Southwest Music Festival, The Annual Nationwide Dunk Exchange and for the 2012 TNK Winter Music Festival. They have shared the stage with an array of talented artists such as Pac Div and Theophilus London for Tour de Roses, along with local comrades such as Showyousuck and TheWhoevers. They have been featured on various media platforms such as WGCI’s Go Ill Radio, Soul Call Radio, IMF Magazine, Fake Shore Drive, Ruby Hornet and the Pursuit of Dopeness.

Mirroring the oddity of their mainstay, their music is also thought of as being “of its own”.  Their sound has been likened to the binary chemistry and soul of ATCQ and the melodic musicality of Kanye west.  Combining organic with inorganic components, RETROSPECT’s primary objective is to create a “new soul”. Taking full advantage of melody, they compose exciting introspective music; beautifying the truth by summoning the power of the imagination.

The group’s last project was premiered on Fakeshoredrive as on seven song EP, The Breakout Part One.  They have release some of the most cinematic, creative and beloved music videos in Chicago with single release such as “We came Last,” “Can I,” “Always” and “Guns and Roses.”
