Review: College Radio – Better Daze

Hailing from the Gloomy Emerald City of Seattle, College Radio has made a name for itself with catchy choruses, hard-charging drums, and soaring harmonies. They combine classic old-school pop-punk with an unexpected alternative twist while making songs that are fresh, but instantly familiar. College Radio has just dropped their latest track, the absolute banger, “Better Daze”. The track was mixed and Mastered by John Espy, engineered by Cade Miller and features a music video filmed and edited by Richard Roosien with assistance from Audrey Wimberly.

The single has a very familiar sound to it. From the drum pattern, to the chord pattern, to the chugs in the verse, this is all territory countless bands have traversed for the past 25 years. What sets “Better Daze” apart from the long line of soundalike songs before it, is the song does have a standout chorus with a great sense of melody. With “Better Daze”, College Radio does a fine job of straddling the past and the present of the pop-punk scene. Balancing contemporary alternative pop-punk sounds with the sugary late 90s pop-rock of bands like Weezer and Green Day.
