Review: Jamie Stoffa – Try To Forget

Jamie Stoffa is a genre-bending multi-instrumentalist based out of Washington, D.C. who blends elements of pop, rock, and post-hardcore with modern production to create a signature sound that is unique and evocative.  Jamie’s solo endeavor began in 2018 as a side project to his band at the time, Harbour Escape. As genre-fluid as he is diverse in his technical skillset, the project is marked by experimentalism and variety.

Jamie has released his latest single “Try To Forget”.  With this single, Stoffa has pivoted away from his previous releases “C137”, which was a more straightforward modern rock track, and “Day 52” which had some post-hardcore and hard rock overtones. “Try To Forget” sees Stoffa exploring the currently well-trodden genre of pop-punk. The track opens with an acoustic guitar and Jamie’s clean vocals for a full chorus. And when the full song does open up, we are greeted with open chords, tambourine hits, and drum loops in a sort of halftime groove instead of the hard-driving music bed we’ve grown accustomed to. Stoffa’s multitracked vocals soar in the choruses and reach new heights in the bridge.

It’s been fun to watch Jamie Stoffa grow and experiment with his music style as he finds his own voice. If this is the style of music he lands on, his fans will be all the happier for it. If he continues to evolve and explore, I can’t wait to hear what he comes up with next!
