Watch Dave Grohl surprise nine-year-old drum prodigy on Ellen

Nine-year-old Japanese drum prodigy Yoyoka Soma received the surprise of her life on The Ellen Degeneres Show today (May 14th).

Self-taught drummer Soma was surprised after she performed a rendition of the Foo Fighter’s ‘Pretender’ on the talk show, receiving a personalized message from Foo frontman Dave Grohl himself.

Soma became a sensation after posting her expert ability online, with her unbelievable cover of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Good Times Bad Times’ reaching viral heights, and saw her being invited onto Ellen’s show back in February to perform Queen’s ‘Stone Cold Crazy’.

The same month, the little drummer uploaded her rendition of the Foo Fighters’ classic hit ‘The Pretender’.

She was invited back on the programmer to talk about the ex-Nirvana drummer and to deliver a live performance of the same song.

Her performance was followed by a surprise from Ellen, who played a video message from Grohl himself, who said: “I’ve seen you play ‘The Pretender’ before and you’re amazing! So keep it up, because the world needs more drummers”. Check it out above.
