The first trailer for a forthcoming documentary depicting the relationship between Leonard Cohen and his Norwegian muse, Marianne Ihlen, has been released.
Marianne & Leonard: Words Of Love will delve into the musician’s relationship with Ihlen, who was the inspiration behind songs like ‘Hey, That’s No Way To Say Goodbye’ and ‘So Long, Marianne’.
The film follows the pair’s meeting in 1960, living in a bohemian community on the Greek island of Hydra. Check it out below.
The trailer features Cohen’s letter penned for Ihlen just after her death, in which he said: “Dearest Marianne, I’m just a little behind you – close enough to take your hand”– nine days before his own passing.
The film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, has been directed by Nick Broomfield, the mind behind Whitney: Can I Be Me and Kurt & Courtney.
It arrives in US cinemas on 5th July.
