5 best new bands you probably haven’t heard of

With so many cities honing excellent guitar bands of their own, it can be all too easy to get a little lost when searching for those new sounds. But fear not, we have compiled a list of some of the best up and coming bands coming out of the UK. From the intelligent angular slacker rock of Mush to the infectious sunshine indie of Fake Laugh. These are the top five best you haven’t yet heard of, but wished you had.

Mush

This Leeds quartet make angular guitar tracks that are both intelligent and playful. Whether they’re poking fun at modern living or raising a wry eyebrow at the current political climate, Mush know how to get their listener thinking whilst laying down some churning guitar lines.

Be sure to catch them on their UK tour, kicking off on 16th September at Brudenell Social Club in Leeds.

Italia 90

London based Italia 90 are caught somewhere between urgent post-punk and unfiltered aggression. Their music is dark, addictive and oozing with infectious bass lines that cause the ground to shake. They are the real deal. Catch the boys play The Old Blue Last on 29th August.

Claw Marks

Claw Marks are one of the best bands to come out of the UK hardcore scene and their sound is wonderfully powerful.Think classic rock guitar lines meets punk rock passion and aggressive, monstrous vocal delivery reminiscent of none other than Birthday Party-era Nick Cave. If you’re in the mood for something a little heavier, these guys are the way to go.

Fake Laugh

Fake Laugh is the indie-rock-rock moniker of London and Berlin-based singer-songwriter, Kamran Khan. Although starting out as a solo act, the Fake Laugh backing band allows Khans sensitive songwriting to reach euphoric heights. His pop-rock tracks are packed with a melancholic punch indeed.

Honey Lung

London natives Honey Lung are kicking up a storm with their mix of ’90s grunge guitar work and catchy pop hooks. It’s songwriting that manages to feel simultaneously timeless and original. Unsurprisingly, they’ve already been picked up by the likes of BBC Introducing. Get to know them before everyone else does at their London show at The Shacklewell Arms on 1st September.
