5 of hip-hop’s hardest diss tracks past and present

It’s always interesting to analyse the lyrics of your favourite artists, especially when they appear to be firing shots at one another.

The ‘diss track’ is by no means a new phenomenon, but it’s still interesting to see current artists digging their claws into each other every now and again. It’s no secret that these types of tracks are more popular in hip-hop and grime, so we’ve decided to list the top five hardest, sometimes career ending, hip-hop diss tracks.

NAS – ‘Ether

It’s never been a secret that NAS and Jay Z have had it in for each other, so it comes as no surprise that at least one of them would feature on this list. NAS’ ‘Ether‘ followed Jay’s incredibly vicious track, ‘Takeover‘, and became so renowned it was eventually turned into a verb.

Tupac – ‘Hit ‘Em Up

Possibly one of the most infamous beefs in the history of Hip-Hop is that of Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. In a battle of the east and west coasts, Shakur used ‘Hit ‘Em Up‘ to take aim at Biggie’s waistline, Lil Kim‘s face and a number of others.

Drake – ‘Back 2 Back Freestyle

Drake and Meek Mill had one of the most recent tensions in hip-hop after the Maybach Music signee tweeted that the OVO frontman didn’t write his own rhymes. Well ‘Back 2 Back Freestyle‘ has since been cited for the demise of Meek’s rap career and the breakup of him and Nicki Minaj.

Remy Ma – ‘Shether

Taking some inspo from the first track on this list, Remy Ma sent for Nicki Minaj in the savage ‘Shether‘. Lifting the beat from NAS’ original, Ma claims her Minaj poison was to dismantle her as a bully to others in the industry.

Ice Cube – ‘No Vaseline‘

The former N.W.A. rapper Ice Cube was subject to a number of disrespectful remarks from his ex-band members after he left the iconic rap group. Once flying solo, Cube hit back at his old crew with the fiery ‘No Vaseline‘ to even the scoreboard.
