Listen to 5 of Malta’s best solo acts

A few weeks back, we showcased some of the finest bands from Malta. Now, we have taken a step in a different direction and delved deeper into the sounds of the island. Moving away from groups, we present to you some of the best solo talents the rock has to offer.

Joe Roscoe

Kicking off our list we have Joe Roscoe. Roscoe likes to keep things simple, often complimenting his vocal ability with a smooth blend of acoustic folk-rock. Joe kicked off his music career back in 2012 releasing two original songs ‘How I feel about you’ and ‘Side by side’. Both reached the top of the local charts and secured him the title of ‘Malta’s best newcomer 2013.

Emma Muscat

Here we find one of Malta’s most talented emerging vocalists, Emma Muscat. When she’s not releasing her own music, she’s usually busy keeping her ever-growing YouTube channel populated with well thought out mashups and cover songs. The 18-year-old singer possesses a strong and versatile vocal ability, which helps her adapt to a variety of different styles and genres to make them her own. Following her 2017 performance on Amici, one of Italy’s most popular reality TV shows, she became an overnight hit with her Instagram shooting up to tens of thousands. 2018 is certainly going to be an exciting year for Emma Muscat.

Karin Duff

Loving can hurt” echoes Karin Duff in her moving cover of Ed Sheeran‘s ‘Photograph‘. Stripping things back to basics, Duff proves she has an unforgettable voice that doesn’t rely on heavily over-produced backing tracks. Much like Muscat, Karin keeps her YouTube channel populated with covers from both contemporary and classic artists. Her gorgeous blend of acoustics and vocals prove that she is steadily becoming one to watch – not just in Malta, globally.

Kevin Paul Calleja

Out of nowhere, Kevin Paul Calleja appears as one of pop music’s unsung heroes. Kevin has already graced the Eurovision Song Contest stage, lending backup vocals to his brother, Kurt Calleja at the finals in Baku back in 2012. Smooth, silky and sweet as hell, Calleja dips in and out of serene and unforgettable tones. Having made appearances on numerous TV shows, including a duet with Maxine Pace on Hadd Ghalik, the 22-year-old singer is growing his fanbase and establishing his name. Fans of One Direction will love this and everyone else can play catchup.

Ira Losco

Having also competed in the renowned Eurovision Song Contest and graced the stage with the likes of Elton John, Maroon 5Akon, Ronan KeatingBob Geldof, and more, Malta’s star girl Ira Losco is renowned for her performance ability. With a career spanning 15 years, her voice has become one of the most powerful the island has to offer and can be suited to a multitude of genres. It’s clear this award-winning artist and empowering vocalist will go down in Malta’s history books.
