The first night of Lollapalooza was cancelled due to adverse weather, headliner Lorde tweeted her disappointment

One of rock’s most well-recognised and long-standing festivals, Lollapalooza Chicago, kicked off yesterday, but was quickly shut down again as a storm rolled in. Fans who had descended on Grant Park in excitement for a headline set from Lorde left in disappointment, as an oncoming storm threatened to put the crowd in danger. The city of Chicago decided to shut down the event in the early evening, midway through Muse‘s set, evacuating the festival-goers and encouraging them to find somewhere safe to shelter the oncoming weather.

Perhaps most disappointed of all was Lorde herself, who sent out a string of characteristically humorous and candid tweets; “fucks sake. i am so gutted guys i don’t know what to tell you,” she stated. She also admitted her disappointment was largely because she “had the most spectacular show planned,” and she also described her intended performance as a “full tank show.” Lorde finished off her impassioned twitter screed with a video blowing a kiss to the people of Chicago. Other performances cancelled by the storm included Lil Uzi Vert and Porter Robinson. Hopefully the rest of the weekend can go ahead as planned, with performances from the likes of Run The Jewels, The xx, Chance The Rapper, Arcade Fire and dozens more scheduled for the next few days.
