Due to take place on the 10-11 June, the prolific Parklife Festival is gearing up to make this year one of their best. With an eclectic line-up spanning across indie, rock, grime, house, rap and EDM, Parklife 2017 is destined for greatness. Pulling out all the stops, the Manchester based festival’s roster is very impressive. So, in anticipation of the eagerly awaited event, we have hand-selected a list of the acts you’d be crazy to miss.
Mura Masa
To kick off our list of ones to watch, we’ve chosen the Gurnsey-born electronic music producer and DJ, Mura Masa. With his eponymous debut album on the way, featuring A$AP Rocky, Charli XCX, Christine and The Queens and NAO, Mura Masa is a seriously exciting prospect right now. Adding his magic touch to a number of different genres, including hip-hop, R&B, pop and grime, Mura Masa is likely to deliver one of the most diverse and electrifying sets of Parklife 2017.
J Hus
J Hus has been making giant strides in the UK grime and dancehall scenes, making him one of the most influential artists to breakthrough in 2016. Following his incredible mixtape, The 15th Day, J Hus prepares to release his debut album, Common Sense, featuring his most notable tracks to date, ‘Friendly’ and ‘Did You See’. His style perfectly blends elements of grime, trap, and bashment and it’s rapidly becoming one of the hottest club sounds right now. 2017 is definitely J Hus’ year.
The Japanese House
Hailing from Buckinghamshire, Amber Bane aka The Japanese House will send you into a trance with her dreamy take on indie-pop. Merging elements of electronic music with traditional instruments, her sound shimmers with bright synth-pads and catchy guitar melodies. Many of her tracks are co-produced by The 1975’s George Daniel which only strengthens her powerful sound and style. A definite must-see.
Tom Misch
If bluesy guitar mixed with jazz infused hip-hop beats is your thing, then there’s no doubt that you will already be seeing Tom Misch at Parklife 2017. After releasing his Beat Tape 2 mixtape, the south London producer grabbed the attention of major tastemakers such as Annie Mac, Zane Lowe and Beats 1’s Julie Adenuga. Always working on new material, Tom Misch is bound to showcase a number of vibrant new beats you’re not going to want to miss.
Ratboy
Recently sampled on Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN track ‘LUST’, Rat Boy, aka 19-year-old Jordan Cardy, is gaining recognition from all the right people. The British indie hip-hop hybrid boasts an energetic sound that’s guaranteed to get any crowd hyped up. Inspired by The Streets and The Clash, Rat Boy’s sound has an air of nostalgic punk rock whilst prominent influences of The Beastie Boys. Rat Boy’s album, Scum, will be out later this year.
