Hotel living and all that jazz – Interview with pop sensation Anttix

“Anttix is preparing to smash his way into the charts with the release of his hotly anticipated debut single ‘Tornado’. Described by critics as “a pop smash” and “one of summers biggest anthems”, ‘Tornado’ is attracting attention from across the globe. With his self-titled, cult following fan base ‘Fanttix’ bombarding TV and radio stations to support the track, international support for Anttix is growing rapidly. Anttix fusion of self penned tracks, infectious personality and charismatic hi-energy live show is taking the music industry by storm.”  I speak with him about his single “Tornado”, girls, comparisons to Conor Maynard and future Europe tour plans.

Piotr Balkus: Who is Anttix? We haven’t seen you in X Factor, neither in Britain’s Got Talent nor The Voice. How you managed to enter the music industry world?

Yes, that’s right! Not been caught up in that reality music TV mumbo jumbo yet! (laughter) I’ve been doing things the old fashioned way – writing my own music, touring and building a fanbase. I’ve been making music now for a couple of years building a huge catalogue of material, while also writing tracks for other artists.

– But now it’s your time. Your first single Tornado is out. But the song has been suspended in the US, because of the tragic events (tornado in Oklahoma)…

It was something I was involved in. I woke up to “Tornado” trending on Twitter. For a moment I thought it might have been my music video going viral, but it was actually something very different. People’s lives and homes are a lot more important than a pop track. I was very happy to push back the release, out of respect to everyone, who was affected by the events in Oklahoma.

– Your music is very cheerful, and make people smile and dance…

From day one I’ve known what makes me tick. I love catchy feel good pop tracks. Im not one of those artist who feel pressured into making music that they think is ‘cool’. I mean, come on – everyone loves a good fun pop track. I also write all of my own music and there is always a message in the tracks, something that has meaning to me. I’m actually really overwhelmed with the response from ‘Tornado’. Im getting hundreds of tweets everyday from around the world showing their support – what lil legends!

– Some people compare you to Conor Maynard. What makes you different from him?

Being compared to people is something that I didn’t really prepare myself for. It seems everyone thinks you’re like someone else! (laughter) I usually just get “you remind me of Joey Essex” or “Conor Maynard”. I think we’re very different as artists. First of all his music is more urban-pop, using more club beats, where I am a lot more guitar heavy. I like Conor though. I think he’s a great artist so being compared to him is fine with me!

– I like Conor too. I also likee your cover of Jessie’s J “Domino”. You made this song different, smoother…

I actually forgot I did a cover of Domino. I love that track so much, I get songwriter envy when I listen to it – It’s a perfect pop track! Me and my brother started jammin’ one day and it just went from there! I love covering other artists tracks, I hope to cover some more soon when I get some time, I want my YouTube account to be full of them… Things are just crazy at the moment. Hotel living and all that jazz.

– Well, I know where “all that jazz” comes from. You are a handsome guy… Do you think girls like to listen to you or to watch you?

(Long laughter) I really find this bit hard. I get this all day long on Twitter. I’ve got to the stage where I’ve turned off my notifications on my phone. I don’t really consider myself as handsome though. I’m just me. Let go with both… I hope they like my music and me! If this was on Twitter I’d be replying with the ‘hands over eyes monkey’ icon (laughter).

– Conor sings “Girls girls girls, I can’t say no, never see them coming, just watch them go”. Do you think you can say the same?

Do you know what? I’ve spent so much time focusing on making music and my career in the last 6 months that I’ve not even had the time to date anyone. No wonder why I’m single. Maybe I need to asses my priorities! (Laughter).

– So you can confirm you are single?

I’m officially alone in life (laughter), although I get around 20 marriage proposals a day on Twitter. So I have that as a backup!

– But not only UK loves you. I saw the post on your facebook from Denmark: “Please come to Denmark!”. Do you think you would be able to win the Eurovision 2014 in Denmark?

I actually performed in Denmark in 2006. This is well before my serious music career started, but it was fun! I’m actually in the middle of discussing an European promo tour. I’m not sure about the whole Eurovision thing though. Not really my sorta bag!

– Good luck with album “Tornado” and “all that jazz”…

– Thank you!
