Damien Aribert recently won the guitar category of the 3rd Edition of the Fenix Award International Music Competition

At the age of 16 Damien knew he wanted to become a professional guitarist and this led to him entering a competition in order to improve himself.

He didn’t do as well as he anticipated in the competition but he did walk away with a lesson and that is that “even if you’re disappointed by some people, music never disappoints you.”

For a long time Damien wasn’t interested in competitions at least not until 2017 when the International Art Academy (Greece) discovered him in the American magazine Classical guitar.

They then invited him take part in their Kithara composition competition that same year.

Last April saw Damien receive an e-mail about the Fenix Award Competition and despite an initial lack of interest, something compelled him to sign up as he had previously done so in 2017.

The first part of the competition was free, which is why he decided to register.

A few weeks later he received an email informing him that he was a finalist, however Damien hesitated because it was necessary to pay in order to go further in the competition however it seems he made the right choice and in his own words “The classical guitar is not considered a noble instrument in the classical music world in general.

So to win a competition like the Fenix Award Competition against over two hundred contenders has a very pleasant flavour. The old man is still around!”

Damien performed ‘Danza del Molinero’ by Manuel De Falla, ‘Un Sueño en la floresta’ by Agustin Barrios, ‘Saudade n.3’ by Roland Dyens and his own composition ‘Welcome to Tabiasland.’
