Today, we have the pleasure of delving into the world of Belgian DJ and producer Kenn Colt, a name synonymous with transformative musical experiences that resonate long after the final beat drops. Known for his electrifying blend of Tech House and Latin House, he has not only made waves on some of the world’s biggest festival stages, including recently playing Tomorrowland, as well as Ultra Music Festival and Sunburn Festival but he’s also captured the hearts of millions with his infectious energy and heartfelt lyrics.

With over 55 million streams on Spotify alone, Kenn’s music is more than just catchy beats—it’s a genuine reflection of his personal journey and life experiences. As the founder of his own record label, Feels Like Home, and a resident DJ at the renowned Club Versuz, Kenn has consistently pushed the boundaries of his craft, creating a deeply personal and universally inspiring soundscape.

Hey Kenn! Where are you answering from tonight? I know you are about to head on a tour..

I’m on my way to Shanghai! I’m very excited because it’s my first time performing there.

Let’s start with Tomorrowland. How can you describe the feeling of returning to the festival?

I’m super happy that I was able to perform again at Tomorrowland. I mean, I performed there for so many years, so it feels good to be back each year; it’s very special for me. I always get nervous before starting, especially on big stages like the Tomorrowland FREEDOM stage. But when I start playing, all of those worries go away, and I kind of go into the zone, and I start to enjoy it.

Your set looked crazy.. how did you alter the performance for Tomorrowland compared to playing somewhere else?

Thank you! It all begins with curating the perfect tracks that I could be playing there, taking into account the type of audience, the time slot, and the overall vibe of the festival. However, the key to any successful performance, not just at Tomorrowland, is the ability to adjust and improvise on the spot. Even with thorough preparation, you can never be entirely sure what the audience will be in the mood for, so reading the crowd and responding to their energy is crucial. The audience plays a huge role in the success of my performance, and I’m incredibly grateful for their energy and enthusiasm.

What’s your favourite thing about Tomorrowland and why?

My favourite thing about Tomorrowland is seeing people from all around the world come together for this event with so much love and no hate. It’s amazing how music can unite people from different cultures and backgrounds. The energy at Tomorrowland is truly unmatched, and I’m thankful to be part of it.

You have some other exciting shows coming up; what can the fans expect in the next months?

More shows abroad which I’m always excited about, like Nairobi, 2 shows in Paraguay, and my first-ever show in Brazil (Foz)! Please watch out for more shows soon!

Tell us about your residency at Versuz; what makes the club so special to you?

Versuz feels like home to me. Aside from the fact that it’s literally in my hometown 😂, the people there are like family. The amount of support I get from everyone is amazing, and I always have the best time performing there. It’s a special place where I feel truly connected to my audience and the music. Besides that, the team also gives me a lot of opportunities to play with many international DJs and external events.

I saw you recently played alongside Alok there, how can you describe that experience?

It was incredible! He’s one of my favourite artists and super humble as well, so you can imagine how amazing it felt to not only meet him but also perform on the same stage. It was a crazy and surreal experience, and it’s something I’ll never forget. Sharing the stage with such a big and influential DJ was truly an honour.

Apart from size, what are the main differences at playing a big stage at Tomorrowland compared to a small club like Versuz? Which works for you?

It’s the atmosphere. At clubs like Versuz, people are more in the moment. You feel a bit more connected because they are super close to you. They come to vibe and go all out. I love the raw, intimate energy of club performances where everyone is just living in the moment. At big festivals like Tomorrowland, while the energy is incredible, many people are also keen on capturing the moment on their devices because they’ve invested a lot to be there and want to keep those memories, there’s nothing wrong with that, but it creates a different dynamic. and as well the people are far away from the dj booth, so you don’t see their faces that well (or it is because of my bad eyes ;-)) Both have their charms.

On the other hand, performing at big festivals allows me to reach people who might not usually be on my radar. It’s exciting to see how they receive my music and it’s a fantastic way to build a new audience.

Can you tell us more about your upcoming song ‘Anejo’ on Smash Deep? Tell us how it sounds in 3 words..

Latin Influenced tech house song 

It’s a tech house track but I’ve used many elements which are used in latin house tracks as well. The vocal is English but refers to the Tequila drink “Añejo”, and Mexicans are known for their tequila, so that’s the double hint. Also releasing for the first time on Smash Deep, a sublabel of Smash The house from Dimitri vegas & like Mike is exiting, let’s see how this release will go!

Lastly, in terms of releases and collaborations, what can fans expect from you in the future?

I have lots of plans for the rest of 2024, definitely more music coming soon. Lots of collaborations too with Luciana again so I’m very excited. Stay tuned for more exciting updates and new music by following me on my socials!
