GETTING TO KNOW: BABA & CO

Hey Baba & Co! Who are your biggest influences?

For Baba & Co , the primary influences are snarky puppy, Tigran Hamasiyan, Cory Wong, Vulfpeck

‘Colorhead’ is a real journey of a song, how was the recording and writing process for it?

It took 2-3 sittings to finish, the arrangement I wrote back when I was in Berklee which took around 8 hours but then I never worked more on it and just let it be, last year when I decided to make a record that’s when I brought this demo back to existence and polished it which took 2 more sessions. Before writing ColorheadI had a few things I wanted in a song. I wanted a Phrygian Dominant chorus, a guitar solo with Guthrie Govan influences, a metal outro, and also a section with the brass section. And then it was just filling in the gaps and adding different colours to taste.

You lean on a highly progressive rock style, has this always been your aim?

It’s the music that made me want to make this guy profession so yeah I’d say it is definitely a big part of my music endeavours

What do you want people to take away from ‘Colorhead’?

It should feel like a journey, like the feeling you get watching a fantasy movie

How does it feel to have your first single out in the world?

It is a great feeling honestly, always a pleasure sharing art for the world

There is a real moment of solace and balance at the end of ‘Colorhead’, is the seen as the calm after the storm musically for you?

Yes, while writing this, I wanted a breather and an electric piano felt the right thing to do hence that part was added

And lastly, what does 2023 look like for Baba & Co?

A full length album will be out this year probably by the end of summer and of course I would love to tour as much as I can.
