Kate Cameron draws inspiration from ‘The 27 Club’ in new single (Exclusive)

In Kate Cameron‘s latest single “27“, she draws inspiration from a cultural phenomenon known as “The 27 Club” and from her age, which was 27 at the time she wrote and recorded the song.  In the song, the sacrifices that independent artists and songwriters make are recognized, as is the fear of peaked careers in the music industry before you achieve your full potential.

In the chorus, Kate sings, I’m so scared of turning 27 because all the greats were wondering what they would have become when they turned 27 and went to the 27 clubs“. Kate hopes that Nashville embraces her take on this soul-driven tune.

“I hope that people get to have a small peek inside the life of an independent artist in Nashville. So many of my peers give up their whole life outside of music and work so hard just for one shot at living out the dream of being a working musician. The older you get the harder it is to keep a one-track mind. “27” may feel somber at its core but it’s also about recognizing the resilience it takes to go after your dreams whether you are a musician or not!” explains Kate.

With equal parts soul, grit, and grace, Kate Cameron’s distinct and unique vocal sound falls somewhere between her Boston roots and her Nashville idols.

I wrote this song solely on my own which makes it pretty special to me. The idea is a wholehearted journal entry. I truly had no intention of releasing it as a single and it’s possible that it could have been a song I would never actually play live but after a few listens the song truly won me over. The producer, Anthony Rankin aka ANTi had a huge hand in formatting the acoustic magic, letting the instrumental land somewhere between a 70’s songwriter ballad and pop-country song. He played every single instrument, sang backing vocals, as well as mixed and mastered the track solely on his own. Anthony is a super talented musician and producer who deserves a ton of creative credit in his own right!” explains Kate.
