MC Sessions | Gold Star

Gold Star is the country-folk moniker of LA-based singer-songwriter, Marlon Rabenreither. His music is coated in hazy retro filters, reminiscent of the classic songwriters of the past – from the poetic delicateness of Leonard Cohen to the jubilant choruses of James Taylor.

Having grown up in the sun-soaked city of Los Angles, Rabenreither naturally fell in love with the romance of the underground indie scene. He played in several musical outfits at a young age; from the wild punk fury of CG Roxanne And The Nightmares to the softer, more pensive, electric-dreaminess of the Sister Ruby Band that would later influence Gold Star‘s throwback sound.

It was after a Sister Ruby show that Rabenreither was approached blues and country legend, Lucinda Williams, who was so impressed by the young songwriter’s talent that she insisted that he support her as a more stripped back solo act. Rightfully taking Williams’ advice, Rabenreither has traded his electric in for his old battered acoustic, spending the past several years honing his skills as a classic songwriter.

With his intimate tales of isolation and melancholia, Gold Star is a modern troubadour, here to save those broken souls from the pressures of 21st-century living.
