Ballast (aka Oscar Manning) is an Australian vocalist and electronic music producer, originally from the North Sydney area.
After many years of studying music Oscar decided he wanted to do more than just listen and embarked on a journey to become a music producer.
Several years down the line he was on the road to making his dreams reality and his journey led him to London in order to further his career but things took an unexpected turn, which resulted in a big upheaval and out of this upheaval came ‘22.3-?’.
Ballast is set to unveil his latest self produced track ‘22.3-?’ and in his own words “this song comes from the darkest place I’ve probably ever been in my life”.
The song’s title symbolizes and reflects how on Sunday 22nd March 2020, Oscar had no choice but to return home as a result of Covid.
In addition to this other events led to further struggles for Oscar, all of which culminated in the creation of the song.
The melody of ‘22.3-?’ delivers jarring sounds and disjointed vocals and the song’s lyrics depicts how there is no short cut or quick way out of the covid situation and it mirrors what we are all feeling.
