The 8 most rock and roll moments of The Brits so far

With the Brits 2017 fast approaching, we felt it necessary to compile a list of the most rock and roll moments in the history of the award show. Now, we don’t want to give it all away, but we will tell you that Adele appears more than once (don’t act so surprised). Read on to relive Madge’s epic fall, Alex Turner’s controversial speech and more.

Adele’s reaction to having her speech cut short (2012)

The Brits were hated by a nation when they cut off Adele’s emotional speech in 2012.  Presenter James Corden interrupted the icon as she accepted the award for Best Album to make way for final performers, Blur. Being the loud mouthed legend she is, Adele made sure she left them with a parting gift in the form of a one-fingered gesture.

Madonna falling down the stairs (2015)

It’s safe to say, Madge falling down the stairs is up there in the most horrific TV moments of all time. The pop veteran was pulled down the stairs by her dancers after she failed to untie her cloak in time. Like a true rockstar, the 58-year-old recovered herself with grace and poise.

Sadie Pinn photobombing Ant and Dec (2016)

Brit Awards presenters Ant and Dec were in for a surprise when they were joined by scantily-clad model, Sadie Pinn, whilst introducing Jess Glynne’s performance. Pinn provoked over 50 complaints when she took the opportunity to flaunt her Pam Hogg-designed sheer catsuit on live television.

Harry Styles arriving late to collect his award (2014)

Harry Styles and ‘rock and roll’ hardly go hand-in-hand, but when the former frontman of One Direction arrived late to collect the band’s award because he was “having a wee”, we had to give him some credit. Styles proceeded to ask his bandmates in a whisper what they had won, before attempting to blag some sort of speech.

Liam Gallagher throwing his award and microphone into the crowd (2010)

Liam Gallagher proved that he doesn’t need anyone’s validation when he threw his award and microphone into the crowd after his speech at the 2012 Brit awards. Some artist mic-drop, Liam Gallagher – he lobs it.

Adele managing to slip the F-bomb past ITV (2016)

The poor guy responsible for bleeping out Adele’s swear words didn’t quite manage to keep pace for her umpteenth award speech of the 2016 ceremony. The F-bomb slipped through the net when Adele took to the stage to claim her Global Success award, saying “You’re probably getting f**cking bored of me, anyway.”

Robbie Williams challenging Liam Gallagher to a fight (2000)

When Robbie Williams won British Single in 2000, he decided to ditch the traditional thank you speech and instead, take the opportunity to challenge rival Liam Gallagher to a fight.

Alex Turner’s rock and roll speech (2014)

It’s hard to decide whether the Arctic Monkeys frontman’s acceptance speech was inspiring or pretentious. Whichever side you’re on, there’s no denying it was entertaining to watch (for everyone except his suitably uncomfortable bandmates, that is). What is a rockstar if not controversial, eh?
