Hailing from Philadelphia, 92elm continues to refine a uniquely lavish sound, pulling together funky grooves and emotive lyricism.
For his latest project, the producer unveils the five-track EP There You Are, seeing 92elm find the balance between gorgeous neo-soul, electronica and all-around indie-R&B feelings. Opening with ‘Stasis’, audiences are treated to a rich and rhythmic atmosphere, with a reverberant blend of keys, guitar and vocals pulled together with a sleek drum line. ‘Dead Ends’ follows with a showcase of 92elm’s more energetic side, rooting the track in a grooving bass line that breathes life into every other aspect.
This intention is flipped on its head with ‘Closer’, with the steady bass lines and almost falling drum arrangement pulling the track into an emotive new avenue, with sultry, honey-soaked vocal performances taking hold. ‘Mask’ is the fourth number, filled with nostalgic filtered synths brought into a cinematic scale with strings and keys to back it up. Finally, ‘Tell No Tales’ wraps the EP with easy-going smoothness, vivid and confident, with just the right amount of fragility.
”This EP is a leap forward for me,” 92elm shares, “My vocals & lyric writing are more up front & honest than anything I’ve created in the past. The EP contains themes of loss, pain, feeling stagnant in life, and moving through these things in the process of stepping into myself fully. That’s why I titled it “There You Are” because writing about these challenging experiences helped me locate myself.”
