Afrofusion musician Gogowé teases ‘Bodé’ from upcoming double a-side

On the back of working with AYLØ (Complex, The FADER, V Magazine supported) on her last single ‘Funmilayo‘ and surpassing over 100,000 streams in the process, DC-based afrofusion artist and instrumentalist Gogowé is beginning her 2020 with a double a-side release of ‘Wanna Be Somebody‘ and ‘Bodé‘ and she is excited to tease us with a preview of ‘Bodé‘ before it comes out tomorrow.

Both singles are written by Gogowé, and are taken from her forthcoming debut EP Je M’apelle Gogowé, which is due for release later this year. While ‘Wanna Be Somebody‘ is a highlife fusion track about pursuing your calling boldly and unapologetically, the highlighted ‘Bodé‘ takes us down the afrosoul route, led by Gogowé’s lush vocals, delicate harmonies and heartbreaking lyrics.

Speaking about the track, she says, “I hate to admit it but ‘Bode’ was inspired by that dark place you find yourself after a relationship ends, hence the minor chords and progressions in the song. What I love about it though, is that it is still very uplifting and soulful, and it does not leave you in a dark place when you listen. I am very proud of what I was able to do with this song sonically, especially still keeping that afro element that I always strive to bring to every song I make”.
