ALBUM REVIEW: Lee O’Brien – ‘This Is Me’

While many saw the negative impact the coronavirus pandemic had on the music industry, many artists such as Lee O’Brien saw it as a golden opportunity to pursue a more committed venture to his craft. Usually one for exploring new ideas as and when he can, the lockdowns allowed him to focus his mind and create a full-length release that truly summed up his musical ambitions.

Working alongside the legendary Francis Rossi of Status Quo, who produced and co-wrote the record, ‘This Is Me’ sees the frontman deliver a powerhouse of bold and shimmering pop-rock gems from start to finish. His rich swagger and down-to-earth demeanour play a huge part in the appeal behind this new collection, creating a more inviting feel throughout and letting O’Brien opt for a more lighthearted and breezy approach than most.

In all, ‘This Is Me’ acted as a vessel for the artist to remain level-headed over the last year, and that direction leaps out of every track on here. Lee O’Brien is a character that wears his emotions on his sleeve, giving us a bright and uplifting feeling while listening, something we can all do with in these uncertain times.
