And the Sunset Burns share wistful ‘Take It Or Leave It’

Blending rock and roll, Latin and indie flair, four-piece And the Sunset Burns embraces a diverse musical taste. A blend of English and Spanish heritage, one half of the band, singer/guitarist Danny and bassist Isma, are childhood friends from Asturias in Northern Spain, the pair meeting drummer Ruben and guitarist Alex in London before forming in 2023.

In their third release of 2024, And the Sunset Burns brings a shining indie glow to their writing. Radiating a combination of wistfulness and optimism, ‘Take It Or Leave It’ is filled with settled vocals, a grooving rhythm section and waves of gleaming guitar licks.

Thematically, the band take a dive into finding a balance in the early stages of a relationship. Should you put all your effort into it? Is it worth your time? The internal conflict is present across their lyricism, the repeating hook and title sung as if in front of a mirror, convincing yourself to make the decision.

As their debut album, All My Sins looms on the horizon, And the Sunset Burns will no doubt soon become a band of tastemaker interest.

Explaining the new track, the quartet shares, “Ruben (drummer) wrote the song while living in Tooting, just before joining the band. He was inspired by the jangly sound of Ooh La La by the Faces and came up with the rhythm guitar riff that runs through the song on his acoustic guitar.

It began very much as an acoustic song, but when you present a song to the band it takes on a new life. Everyone brought their own influences and it evolved into the modern vintage blend it is now. The song was produced by David Bardon at the Sunglasses for Jaws HQ studio in Hackney.”
