Anne Stott unveils intimate new ode ‘Palm Trees and Parking Lots’

Anne Stott has released a new track, ‘Palm Trees and Parking Lots’, a love song with a poetic intention and a heavy heart. An ode to Los Angeles, the track is laced with a hushed, reflective melancholy. Anne takes on the beauty atop the fault lines as a broader metaphor for the heart of the city.

Sparse piano lines, subtly arranged shimmering and swirling processed strings, all give way to a human vocal delivery. The lack of bitterness or naivety comes across as a questioning acceptance, giving an overall dreaminess to every line.

Commenting on the forthcoming nature of her songwriting, Anne shares, “Palm Trees and Parking Lots is a love song to Los Angeles that muses on how we are all participating in climate change. When I wrote this song and shot the video, I had no idea Los Angeles would become a flashpoint for environmental disaster and anti-immigrant violence in one year. As the politics of scapegoating in the US runs rampant, Palm Trees and Parking Lots looks within at the ‘blur of human fault lines cracking open in real time’ to search for deeper, more honest truths.”

With a background spanning activism, theatre and music, Anne’s creative path has been shaped by years of protest, performance and compassion. The intimate nature of her new single echoes these lifelong values, delivering thoughtful and honest storytelling. If you’re in need of a quiet moment to feel the chaos of the world, whilst peacefully reflecting on it, this is a fantastic track.
