Sweden-hailing singer-songwriter Antonio Cordua has released ‘Older’, a delicate, introspective new release exploring the relationships that have evolved around him. Cordua’s first single since last October, ‘Older’ feels as though the artist has deepened his sound. Sparkling synths introduce a more tactile, guitar-led, emotionally open centre, gathering around a soft-spoken and self-assured vocal. The lived-in warmth of the sound glances between an indie pop clarity and an alt-folk intimacy.
As Antonio explains, “I wrote this record around my relationship with my grandmother and how, as you grow older, the view of your parents and, in my case, my grandmother changes. They are no longer the invincible person that you thought they were as a kid. You start to look at them as an individual with their flaws and problems, but with that comes a greater gratitude and love that you didn’t have before. You start to empathise and understand them in a way you couldn’t before as a kid.”
Without anything overly grand in the arrangement, ‘Older’ lets its reflections unfold naturally, bringing honesty, and a recognition of the cracks in someone you love, and learning to love them better for it.
Growing as an independent, Cordua’s debut ‘CIRCLE’ was released in 2021, laying out the hands-on process that would go on to be a staple across his work from writing to final production.
