Apryll Aileen is full of ‘Savannah Soul’

Apryll Aileen was first brought to Music Crown’s attention after they first saw her at a showcase in Cannes, France earlier in the year. Since then, Apryll has been working tirelessly to finish her exciting debut album.

The Canadian singer/songwriter has an extra special addition to her album too, which was previously unavailable in the UK. ‘Savannah Soul – Deluxe Edition’ now also includes an exclusive cover of ‘River’ as made famous by Joni Mitchell.

‘Hey Sugar’ is the lead single from the album and is a great little pop track that instantly catches your ear from the first line “Hey Sugar, what you doin’ this for?” She adds that the song was written for one of her best friends after watching her struggle through a toxic relationship. “I think everyone can think of a time when they have felt used and disrespected. If you’ve ever felt that way, this song is for you”, Aileen states. “The song is meant to inspire and empower people”.

‘Forever Young’ is the first track on the album which discussed how tough life and love can be. Don’t expect this to be a slow song though Aileen looks on the bright side and embraces life as it is.

The penultimate track ‘Texas’ brings a catchy country vibe. “Left my heart in Texas, I’ll never be the same” Aileen sings in the verse.

Apryll Aileen has been releasing a music video each week in the lead-up to the album release on Friday 25th November 2016, with videos for ‘Hey Sugar’, ‘Forever Young’ and ‘Little By Little’ already available. Those that have been following her on Twitter will notice that she’s been shooting more videos too. Clearly, Aileen isn’t done yet and we’re looking forward to seeing what other musical offerings she has in the pipeline.

The album takes its name from a trip Aileen took to Savannah, Georgia after hearing stories from her Toronto-based producer Kenny Munshaw (Justin Bieber, The Tenors, Miss America 2012). Aileen felt a kinship with Savannah and was able to reconnect with herself while “allowing her the chance to commit paper ideas to analogue tape”. From this, ‘Savannah Soul’ felt like the perfect name for the eight-track album.

The album has been added to radio rotation in her native Canada, which has since led to her deciding to tour the UK in the lead up to Christmas. She has so far played several dates in and around Wales and London, with more on the way. Aileen shares one recent story of a gig she played on Halloween where she was the only person in the venue who decided to go in fancy dress “Oh, the joys of being an excited Canadian” she laughs.

The album will be released in full on Friday 25th November 2016.
