Indie alt-pop artist ARI LEE has returned with ‘The One’, delivered, as ever, with a fiery foundation. It pulls the audience into the tension between romantic fantasy and reality, as brooding textures lash out and elegant vocals break down the walls of emotional expectation. The new single is the third release from her forthcoming EP Trophy Wife in Training.

Dramatic from the first instance, perfectly splicing atmospheric production with the rawness of ARI’s performance. The bittersweet lyricism, paired with driving guitar grit and shimmering pop sensations, is a tense combination, but there’s something particularly potent about it in this context.

In ARI’s own words, “Growing up, I loved fairy tales. I always aspired to have that one true love, which led to losing myself in a lot of relationships. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to realise that the idea of ‘The One’ may not exist. Maybe the person that I was looking to love me the whole time was myself, and that’s what this song is about”.

Bold hooks have come to be expected from this Hong Kong and Portugal-hailing, now London-based songwriter. Channelling feminine rage, disillusionment and liberation in every line, ARI LEE has a clear vision, one that she says involves fighting men and chasing her dreams.
