Cork post-punk trio Ash Red have returned with a new EP, entitled Stupid EP and released via Blowtorch Records. Bringing together coarse alt-rock urgency and moments of surprising vulnerability, the band is raw, with a live feel, but hints at what’s to come in the future.

The five-track has plenty to consume in the meantime, with grooving undertones delivered from the bass and drums as guitars take an unfiltered freewheel through sharp melodies. Adding atmosphere with their use of effects, the project is given a shoegazey haze.

“The EP captures a raw and direct snapshot of a band in transition,” the group explains, “bridging the gap between our earlier sound and what’s to come on the full-length album.”

Forming in 2019, the three-piece of Arthur Murray on guitar and vocals, Tadhg O’Keeffe on bass and Isaac Walsh on drums have become staples of the local scene, whilst expanding out into Dublin and Belfast. Praised by Irish outlets, they’ve started to make a name for themselves in the UK and are set to embark on an Irish tour this August.
