The Austrian songstress, who successfully launched her career last year, has now followed up her earlier 2022 single “Sorbet” with yet another infectious gem, sharing “Angels and Devils.”
Out via Worldwiide Records, “Angels and Devils” is an instant pop smash, taking inspiration from the unique melodies and vibes of K-pop music. White its hard-hitting, trap-leaning percussion and infectious instrumental undoubtedly play big role in its success, TØNY’s incredible singing definitely takes the spotlight, while telling a relevant and relatable story of inner conflict.
“For Angels & Devils, in particular, I took inspiration from real life. I tried to capture the feeling of not quite knowing where fate is taking you,” explains TØNY about the meaning behind the song. “Inspired by the idea of ‘Playing with a flame or desire’, which is forbidden and which no one quite knows if it will last or burn out, videlicet if the situation feels right or wrong? Almost as if playing with fate, and one is not quite sure which pathway will be theirs, who will end up making ‘good decisions’ or ‘bad decisions’. Therefore the song tackles the idea of ‘letting the heart win or your mind?’. Ask oneself will I be good or bad, end up in heaven or hell? Which version of myself will I be in the end – an Angel or Devil? Yet in the end, only to conclude, there is a little of both in all of us. This ambiguity is what the song tries to capture. The pull of desires which one tries to control but yet, when it comes to matters like one’s heart, one somewhat is powerless and eventually gives in to the pull.”
