Indie-punk is the scene for trio bacci pouch, rising out of Brighton with a charming flair, a driving essence and a rowdy attitude. The anticipated release of their EP Pouch Core is now upon us, the four-track blasting melodic chaos that spans five decades of punk innovation and revival in style, delivered with scrappy intentions.
Distilling their live essence, whilst bringing a new emotional weight, it’s a record of performance purity, unpolished, infectious and direct. Thematically, we follow the push and pull of youth: excitement and uncertainty, nostalgia and restless ambition.
In the words of vocalist and guitarist James Neighbour, “Pouch Core is a collection of songs that neatly presents a lot of the feelings of overwhelming uncertainty and extreme excitement you have in your early 20s, along with the heightened pressure you feel to make something of your life while also having a lack of direction and feeling like you are being left behind.”
Inspired by The Libertines and the Buzzcocks, it’s a melodic grit and sharp urgency on the menu at bacci pouch, a cathartic finish begging to be let out of the cage unmuzzled. Earning comparisons to their heroes from esteemed press, and gathering a following from riotous live sets, bacci pouch is bottled lightning, slowly pushing out the cork.
