London-based Becca James has spent the last few months unveiling portions of a vast new album, God In Chains, which is set to be transformative for both her direction and career. Recently performing a showcase at Stereo in Covent Garden and a sold-out show at The Hobo Club in Loughton, her presence is no doubt growing as her partnership with YR Records continues.

‘Bloom’, the latest teaser to emerge from the project, continues to show a unique sonic perspective and a mastery of expression. Both gracious and thoughtful throughout, the track centres around a connection between Spring’s first days and emotional healing.

Through this, Becca embodies cascading vocal melodies, a waterfall of shimmering sounds, as the gentle hums and rhythms embrace a natural tone. The lead topline moves with the music, floating around it. The acoustic glimmer alongside clear production prowess further exemplifies a talent for blending the natural with the abstract. In short, another sign that Becca’s new full-length will be one to remember.

Speaking about the track, she shares, “’Bloom’ embodies the peak of regenerative Spring energy; nurturing and full of potential. The song marks the ‘aha’ moment in the healing journey when you realise that while you can’t change the past or the trauma you’ve experienced, you can embrace the fertile ground for growth and healing. This continues the narrative that began with the previous single, ‘Revolution’, exploring the idea that we are planting seeds for new beginnings even in moments of disaster. The track draws on imagery of the lotus flower, a spiritual symbol that blooms beautifully despite its surroundings, capturing the resilience and transformation inherent in the song. It began as a piano demo and was developed between the UK and Copenhagen with producer Andreas Stent. Initially more electronic, it gradually evolved as we blended acoustic elements too, a signature of the album. I hope it could serve as a cathartic, anthem-like ballad for the project, providing a counterpoint to its more serious and darker tracks.”
