Listen Here – Out Now!
Get ready to crank the volume and feel the rush, Benny Jay, the Melbourne-born, LA-dwelling rock maestro, has unleashed the music video for his latest single, ‘Hang On‘, and it’s a gritty, uplifting masterpiece that’s impossible to ignore. Released on the 15th January, 2025, this rock-pop anthem isn’t just a song, it’s a battle cry for anyone riding life’s unpredictable waves, delivered with a raw, analogue edge and a visual punch that’ll stick with you long after the final note is sung.
The music video features Benny Jay, arms outstretched, standing tall in the concrete jungle of the LA River dam and bridge area at the end of the first chorus. It’s the moment he can’t stop replaying, and neither will you. Bathed in vibrant colors and radiating a vibe that screams freedom, this scene is the beating heart of the Hang On video. “The colours, the vibe, and proud of the accomplishment at this moment, to know that I’ve produced and edited this video, the song, everything, it’s all come together,” Benny Jay says. “Now it’s live online for the world to see, and that’s a special feeling.”
Shot in the train yards and bridges of Downtown LA, the video was originally dreamed up for New York’s iconic grit, but time and budget had other plans. No matter, Benny Jay turned LA into his own urban canvas, weaving a coast-to-coast American tale. From the Statue of Liberty framing the opening and closing shots to Benny Jay rocking a Memphis tee, Hang On captures the spirit of a nation, east to west, rich to poor, young to old. “We’re all hurting or being affected by something,” he explains. The characters in the video, blue-collar workers, white-collar dreamers, kids, and elders, bring that message to life, painting a vivid picture of humanity’s shared struggle and resilience. This isn’t just eye candy; it’s a full sensory experience that amplifies the track’s core.
Recorded in his own studio behind an SSL console and vintage outboard gear, Hang On is 100% analogue, 100% him, written, produced, mixed, and mastered by the man himself. “It’s rock. Rock ‘n’ roll. It’s MY sound,” he declares. Inspired by giants like Bon Jovi, Stryper, and Extreme, Benny Jay channels the late ‘80s and early ‘90s into a melody that hooks you and a chorus that demands to be shouted from the rooftops. The video itself is a true DIY triumph. With a local videographer capturing Benny Jay’s live shots in a single day, the rest is a mix of online footage and self recorded takes. From vision to final cut, Benny Jay edited it all, proving he’s a one-man force with a story to tell.
Hang On, the title track of the album, is the second single in a 12-song rollout, with each track dropping as a single throughout 2025 before the full album lands by Christmas. It’s a journey Benny Jay’s been building toward since he first gripped a guitar at age 11, electrified by Bon Jovi’s Keep The Faith tour. Now, decades later, he’s ready to take the stage himself. “I feel like I’m ready to rock this tune out to the fans, uplifting, slightly reflective, but mostly, it’s about getting up there and rocking it.”
