Berlin’s Creative Force Emma Philine Shares Her Dark Side with New EP ‘HURRICANE’

Emma Philine, a rising star in the hyperpop scene, is back with a hauntingly beautiful new EP, ‘HURRICANE’. This project sees Philine, who identifies as bisexual/pansexual, diving deep into her personal struggles and triumphs, offering listeners a raw and unfiltered look at her emotional landscape.

Creating ‘HURRICANE’ was no easy feat. Philine scrapped her initial tracklist in late 2022, starting anew with fresh collaborations. Working alongside Heather, Dennis Behrendt, Novalu, and Enyang, she infused the EP with new energy and creativity, resulting in a collection that is as personal as it is powerful.

In her own words, Philine shares, “I’ve dreamt of this hurricane many times. The vivid imagery has deeply imprinted itself in me. This EP is shadow work — my dark side, my fears, but also the prospect of an end to the dark times and a glimmer of light; hope and an unwavering will: the will to survive oneself.

The visual representation of ‘HURRICANE’ continues the narrative from her previous works. Designed by Dennis Behrendt and captured by photographer Anna Luisa Richter, the artwork, brought to life by Paul Radtke, mirrors the tumultuous and stormy emotions that run through the EP.

Philine draws inspiration from complex, broken characters seen in films like “Black Swan”, “Gone Girl”, and “Fight Club”. “I’m a big fan of angry women in art—the villains, femme fatales, and ‘hysterical’ women. They resonate with the themes of my EP,” she explains.

Her debut EP “17 2 20” already showcased her unique blend of modern dark RnB and experimental pop. With ‘HURRICANE’ she goes even further, presenting a body of work that is both intensely personal and universally relatable.
