Comic Relief’s top musical moments

Since it’s inception in 1985, Comic Relief has seen many celebrities, from Stephen Hawkins to Ed Sheeran, make appearances to help the cause. With the charity show airing tonight, we decided to take a look over some of the incredible performances from over the years.

Carpool Karaoke with George Michael

 
James Corden teamed up with the late George Michael to produce what would be the first ever Carpool Karaoke. This year’s event will include a special Carpool Karaoke with Take That.

Ed Sheeran and Kermit the Frog

 
In a humorous duet, Ed Sheeran teamed up with Kermit the Frog for a rendition of ‘Rainbow Connection‘. The singer can be seen laughing throughout this sweet performance.

McBusted perform for the first time

 
In 2013, we saw members of McFly team up with Busted to create supergroup, McBusted. The energetic spirit embodied everything the night aims to be; fun and entertaining, all the while raising awareness for a fantastic cause.

Sam Smith and John Legend team up for charity single ‘Lay Me Down

 
In 2015, Sam Smith and John Legend got together to release an official charity single for Comic Relief. The single had already been released by Smith, but this time it featured incredible vocals and piano from Legend. The track reached number 1 in the UK, 4 in Ireland, and the top 10 in many places in Europe.

Kate Bush performs at the first ever Comic Relief

 
The first Comic Relief concert was held in 1986 in the Shaftesbury Theatre. Many incredible musicians and comedians took to the stage, including Rowan AtkinsonBilly ConnollyStephen FryLenny Henry, Kate Bush, and Cliff Richard, the latter of whom released the charity single ‘Living Doll‘ with The Young Ones for the occasion.
