Beth George is ‘Leaning On’ the power of songwriting in new single

Musician, singer and poetic storyteller Beth George delves into her own experiences to provide vivid musical narratives for a disenchanted generation. Her new single ‘Leaning On’ is somewhat of a love letter to songwriting and the creative process, which like for so many others, is her primary outlet for emotions and the most cathartic way to express herself.

Sonically, we hear George channelling the spirit of Bristol’s 90s Trip Hop scene, with nods to Massive Attack and Portishead in instrumentation and production. Organic sounds meld with pads and reverb effects as she layers vocals to create choruses which reflect an emotional release from the darker and more introspective verses, all which showcase her brilliantly pure vocal performance.

As an artist who wears her vulnerability with pride, George uses her struggles with mental health, to draw on deeply held emotions as a muse for her music. ‘Leaning On’ typifies this approach as the chorus was written during a particularly difficult time where her parents were separating. She explains:

“Leaning On is a song very close to my heart, mainly because when writing it I felt both a turning point in my personal life as well as my songwriting. I realised that writing music was my way of processing things so that’s how I then constructed the verses. From being completely in the dark with my emotions to slowly unravelling them with songwriting.”

This release follows George’s previous single ‘Sour’, which received media support from the likes of Mahogany, BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio and Loud Women. There’s also a music video in the works for ‘Leaning On’ as well as some live dates which will be announced on social media soon.
