Today is the day that Bigman & The Birdseeds release their brand-new track ‘I Don’t Wanna Work… NEVER!’ and you know what… it was worth the wait.
Opening the track is a hard-hitting, electrifying guitar sound that immediately shakes up the listener, making them stop in their tracks no matter what they’re doing. Bigman himself snarls through three verses, singing lyrics with his emphatic voice – and occasional evil laughs – about his hatred and frustration towards the corporate world and the idea of working to earn very little.
Bigman said something that perfectly sums up the Bristol band’s sound: “We like to have fun… but take our fun very seriously”. This indie-rock trio are amazing at what they do and it’s clear they take it seriously, especially given the very deep and insightful nature of this new song, but you can tell they just love what they’re doing as the recordings sound so raw and full of pure energy. You can’t fake that.
After the third verse we hear a rip-roaring guitar solo that sounds like a pylon exploding (in a good way), before the bridge section of the song starts with a light and unique percussive beat by Matteo. This part of the song starts off quiet yet menacing, but gradually becomes more and more sinister as the drums get louder, the guitar becomes erratic and threatening like a tropical storm, and Bigman is basically forcing the lyrics violently out his throat. The song truly erupts at this part. It feels like the end.
But no, Bigman & The Birdseeds decided they’re not done with us yet. The volcano starts bubbling once more, as a deep and dirty bassline revives the song and Matteo provides a marching band-type drumbeat to build the tension again. Bigman then comes in chanting ‘I don’t wanna go to work’ for the last minute until his shouts for a revolution fade out, hoping the people will listen and get on board.
