Billy Hunt goes on a journey with new single ‘California Callin”

Listen Here – Out Now!

Suffolk’s rising star Billy Hunt And The Modern Classix released their new single, ‘California Callin’’ on the 14th of March, 2025. This track marks an evolution for the band, blending a brighter, cinematic sound with Hunt’s signature dark lyricism. Drenched in West Coast nostalgia, the track is a love letter to the allure of chasing dreams in the music world, with a nod to the legendary Jim Morrison through its haunting opening line, “Don’t you know they all go to Paris to die?” California Callin’ dives into themes of love, loss, and the death of the ego, showcasing a more introspective side to Hunt’s songwriting. Unlike the rebellious, politically charged rock of their 2023 hit No Occupation, this single brings soulful storytelling. It’s a track that feels like a road trip of introspectiveness.

Billy Hunt has carved a unique path in the UK music scene. Raised on the raw poetry of Jeff Buckley, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Paolo Nutini, his live performances are nothing short of magnetic, connecting with audiences with an authenticity that’s earned him a devoted following. From his early days with Good Deeds Music, where his debut single Intoxicate scored international airplay and a BBC News feature, to the #2 spot on Australia’s Banks Radio Chart with No Occupation (released via Thru Tone Records and Gentlemen Recordings), Hunt’s rise has been relentless.

His journey has seen him share stages with icons like Tom Hingley of Inspiral Carpets, The Gulps, and Cosmo Pyke, even appearing in one of Pyke’s music videos. From London’s venues to festivals across the UK, including standout performances at The Cavern Pub in Liverpool and in Sheffield, Hunt’s presence is undeniable. A three-year stint running open mic nights in Suffolk earned him praise as one of the region’s best up-and-coming talents by the East Anglian Daily Times and an NMG Award nomination.

Now, teaming up with Sally Newman of The Songbird HQ (formerly of Creation Records), Billy Hunt And The Modern Classix are primed for their biggest moment yet. California Callin’ is already generating buzz, with live radio interviews and performances lined up and more pouring in. The single reached number 1 on Future Hits Radio and has already reached 60k views on Facebook so far alone. Steve Ludwin hails Hunt as “the most rock and roller I’ve met in years.” Tom Haxell of Good Deeds Music says, “When I first heard Billy’s music, it absolutely blew me away!” BBC Radio Suffolk’s Wayne Bavin dubs him “an absolute legend in the local music scene.”
