Black Reuss’ Journey Is Just Beginning

The self-described “melancholic, doomy heavy metal” Black Reuss released their new full-length album ‘Journey’ on May 6th and it’s appropriately titled to say the least.

Each track off the album represents a different stage of the progression, starting with the ‘Exodus’ and ending with ‘Redemption’.

The album, which follows their debut album ‘Metamorphosis’, does not lack for depth. Sonically, it’s dark, but digestible.

They’ve crafted a sound that is well balanced, resting nicely in that elusive space between simply tapping your foot along to the music—to taking a deep, spiraling look inside of yourself.

The listener can draw as much out of these songs as they choose to, because Black Reuss has provided us no shortage of meaningful weight in each piece.

In their own words, Black Reuss describes Journey as “. . . about surrendering to inner preferences and being less and less controlled by material or negative things. Going through different stages, progresses as well as regresses.”

From a purely sonic standpoint, the recordings ooze with authentic character. The at-times sludge metal sound wears well throughout the listening experience, tastefully countered with driving breaks and deeply layered choruses.

If you’re ready for the transportation, listen to Black Reuss’s new album ‘Journey’ because we have a feeling it’s just beginning.
