The Hamburg-hailing insurgents Blackbird Rebellion have been delivering their gritty, riff-driven, uncompromising alt-rock throughout the underground for 17 years. Small club stages have become second nature, and a loyal following has stayed steadfast through the years as they evolve into new chapters.
With their latest EP, Expedient Means, they’re re-introducing themselves after a six-year hiatus, poised for a fresh noise in 2025. Recorded at Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! studios, the project is a testament to their nearly two-decade growth and wastes no time in establishing their latest dive into a sharp intent.
Five tracks unleash plenty of wall-tearing distortion and pounding rhythms, alongside some shinier Pearl Jam or Rival Sons-esque arpeggios and overarching tones. Leaning into a new post-punk instinct, what’s delivered is a unique package that feels revealing and utterly relentless.
Polished but punchy production brings an air of finesse into the alt-rock, though they remain unapologetic and full-throttle in delivery.
