NYC-based Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet is a collective putting itself on the map. Their defiant genre cocktail of pop, rock and eighties flair has been seen on stages from Seattle to Salt Lake City, supporting the likes of Dog Party. With new music already emerging in 2025, the band seem to be starting a new era, with continued releases pencilled in for the rest of the year.
The latest from Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet is ‘Montclair’, which arrives as a three-minute keyhole look into a bit of indulgent poor judgment. The foundation is built on a tenacious pop-punk instrumental backdrop, filled with roaring distortion, grooving bass melodies and energetic drums.
The vocals, in contrast, feel vibrant and extravagant, almost theatrical, leading the listener in the sonic version of a fast-paced Handycam video following someone on a night out. The storytelling within the music and lyrics is of a healthy bit of worldly pleasure in your mid-20s. Colourful, gloriously self-aware and spontaneous in theme and in atmosphere
The band puts it in their own way, “Many have called Montclair, NJ, the Paris of the United States. Wait, no, misread that. It’s known as ‘the cultural capital of northern New Jersey.’ So like, close enough. Who is to say that Montclair can’t be romantic? Our new single ‘Montclair’ is about chance encounters turning into a fun and sexy cross-country rollercoaster.
It’s about spontaneity, taking chances, and finding excitement – even if it’s in suburban New Jersey. An ode to finding power and autonomy as a woman navigating mid-20s hookup culture and being open to whatever comes your way, we think ‘Montclair’ is the best New Jersey-referenced tracks you’ll hear in the first half of 2025.”
