Artist Camryn Quinlan made her debut in the autumn of last year, teasing the beginning of what has since become an anticipated debut EP If We’re Being Honest. Her music has captured social media, and performances across New York have cemented her talents. A string of tastemakers have rushed to support her, and she returns with radiant sunlight for the relatable heartbreak single ‘Ex-Box’.
Producer Baldvin Hlynsson takes the wheel alongside Camryn for a track that mixes euphoria with soul-tearing. It’s punchy, raw and striking, blending electronic production with a stripped-back organic talent for a pop track that feels something more. Looking ahead to the debut EP, it’s time to strap in for the start of an exciting career.
“The meaning behind “ex box”, is as simple as keeping things that are left behind from exes,” Camryn shares. “The box of cards, gifts, jewelry, movie tickets, and other sentiments that came from that special person. It’s almost like keeping those physical memories, kept the person in your life.
I made the song when I was starting freshman year of high school, and I was just writing in my bed one day, thinking about the box that I had in my room. It was finally recorded three years later when I met my Icelandic producer Baldvin. He flew from Iceland to New York for us to work together and then the song was all put together. It’s crazy how these things happen.”
