Based in New York, Camryn Quinlan is making her debut on streaming services, after building an impressive following across Instagram and TikTok and gigging across her city. The first track, ‘Hourglass’ is an open door into the upcoming EP If We’re Being Honest, a collection of profound tracks that draw inspiration from the likes of Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves.

‘Hourglass’ is rooted in teenage heartbreak, the idea that losing touch with your first love represents a wider life moment, one that lets the life you knew fall away for your future to take its place.

The artist shares, ‘Hourglass’ was inspired by a common high school heartbreak: long distance. Going into a relationship knowing how it would end. There felt like an expiration date, or an hourglass that was slowly running out a clock.

This EP is a bunch of different narrations of being in a relationship of any kind. Most of this EP is raw and true feelings that I experienced. Growing up is hard, and heartbreak is a big part of it.”

The track is brimming with anthemic tendencies, the beautiful use of a swirling organ, the steady roar of guitars, a delicate piano and a pounding bass and drums section, all support a performance from Camryn that brings her emotions to the forefront. It’s pained, elegant and fragile, but Camryn shows her maturity in her portrayal and impressive feat for the 17-year-old songwriting.
