Cassia are back with genuine new single ‘whatstheuse’

Returning with another polished indie-pop hit, Cassia have released their new single ‘whatstheuse’. Though is takes a more introspective and melancholic approach, a departure from their endlessly joyous summer anthems, all the building blocks are still here to make this track everything we love about Cassia. Starting with a swirling piano, frontman Rob Ellis brings us an earnest vocal performance, the track continuing to build with drums, bass and guitars into a heartfelt chorus.

On the new single, Rob shares, “This song is about willingly coming to terms with a chapter of life that has come to a natural end then suddenly being thrust straight into a completely new and vulnerable beginning. I think that humans tend to not deal very well with being in this position, so that thought was always in the back of my mind when writing the lyrics for this tune.

The song was one of the last songs I wrote on a trip over to Berlin and I didn’t really think that I had enough energy in me to get something written. I was really feeling the pressure and I knew I had to get myself in the zone and make something new. The track was written with a friend of mine who was visiting Berlin and he had this piano loop prepared- we built the track around that loop and it just pieced together seamlessly.”

Debuting in 2017, Cassia have gone from strength to strength, writing addictively wondrous tracks that have lead to industry acclaim, a committed fanbase, two albums and a host of singles. 60 million streams and well over 400 thousand monthly listeners to their name on Spotify, it’s clear the band are here to stay, continuing their non-stop growth throughout this year.

‘whatstheuse’ track is an exciting addition to Cassia’s discography, showing even more range and emotion in their writing than we’ve seen before, without losing the sparkle that makes them such a great outfit.
