Celestial Skies latest queer pop single ‘A Terrible Lie’ sees singer Chris Selman’s trademark bittersweet lyrics wrapped up in a blanket winter melancholy. Arriving with a new Darius Shu directed music video that showcases the story of lost love and fading relationships, the track originates from their debut album ‘Songs For Blue Romantics’.
Taking influence from Chris’ own life and past experiences, an orchestral backing of subtle piano, rhythmic drums, and a powerful string section guide the muted vocals, before exploding with emotion on the chorus. Starring in the video himself, Celestial Skies have previously released videos for other indie-pop tracks like ‘Forget Me Not’ and ‘The Lost Art Of Conversation’.
“It’s about my own experience of my most recent relationship, and I wrote the song during one of the long, cold lockdowns.” explains Chris, “‘A Terrible Lie’ plays on the idea that the concept of ‘goodbye’ is a lie – because there’s nothing good about saying goodbye. Musically it’s more ambitious than the previous singles, there’s an epic string section and some gorgeous harmonies going on.”
