Ontario rapper and songwriter Chris Emmanuel is unleashing momentum towards his debut EP. The first taster from the Guyana-born artist takes his long-term influences of reggae, dancehall and hip-hop and drives them into an expressive, melodic sonic escapism.
‘Letting Go’ is a confident return, building around a softly layered vocal sample and humming keys to tie up punchy drums and bass grooves. The vocal delivery is cutting, bringing an urgency, an endurance, and a reflective state to the beat.
It balances a clear hip-hop foundation with a commercial, pop-enthused overtone, balancing introspective with infectiousness, emotionally driven with widespread appeal. As a tease for the debut EP, it’s a really strong start.
